ReplyDeleteThe popularity of ballroom and latin dancing increased lately after the popular show Dancing with the stars.
For hundreds of years dance manuals and other writings have lauded the health benefits of dancing, usually as physical exercise. More recently we've seen research on further health benefits of dancing, such as stress reduction and increased serotonin level, with its sense of well-being.
Then most recently we've heard of another benefit: Frequent dancing apparently makes us smarter. A major study added to the growing evidence that stimulating one's mind can ward off Alzheimer's disease and other dementia, much as physical exercise can keep the body fit.
You've probably heard about the New England Journal of Medicine report on the effects of recreational activities on mental acuity in aging. When it comes to improving your mental acuity, is to involve yourself in activities which require split-second rapid-fire decision making, as opposed to rote memory. Ballroom dancing require thinking, coordination.
Does any kind of dancing lead to increased mental acuity? No, not all forms of dancing will produce this benefit. Not dancing which, like golf or swimming, mostly works on style or retracing the same memorized paths. The key is the decision-making. Remember, intelligence is what we use when we don't already know what to do.
We invite beginners and more advanced dancers to attend a dance event where you can learn 2 different dances, have dinner, have fun. Singles and couples all ages are welcomed.
DANCE ART Studio organizes a glamorous Ballroom, latin and salsa dance event on Sat Sep 25, 2010, 19.30pm-11.45pm at 7755 Bayview Ave-THORNHILL CC, with a dance show, two dance lessons, DJ,line dancing and a fashion show with dance dresses. This event became regular, at least twice-three times a year (organized by DANCE ART Studio). On average 100-200 people attend each time.
Dance Art is located at 10 East Wilmot St Unit 21, 22 at Hwy 7 and Leslie. Offers ongoing group lessons in ballroom, latin, salsa every Mon 7-8pm,thu 7-8pm, Fri 7-8pm, 8-9pm and Sat 11-12, 12-pm, Private lessons are also available by appointment. You can also form your own group and attend the lessons at the studio with your friends/family.
Another specialty is Wedding dance choreography (choreography for the first dance for couples who are getting married) and ballroom/latin/salsa dance shows at events ( one or more professional dance couple will come at your event and dance or and teach).
Dance Art also offers competitive dance lessons in ballroom and Latin for children/teens; Ballroom dancing is a skill for life.
